About the European Union

The European Union (or EU) is a unique political and economic partnership comprising 27 sovereign member states located predominantly on the European continent.

Established in 1993 following the signing of the Treaty on European Union (Maastricht Treaty), the EU built upon and broadened the competencies of the previous European Economic Community. Representing an estimated 500 million citizens, the EU generates approximately 30% of global nominal GDP.

Through standardized systems of laws applicable across all member states, the European Union has established an internal single market ensuring the unrestricted movement of people, goods, services, and capital. Under the Schengen Agreement, internal border and passport controls have been dismantled, affording international university students seamless travel across Europe throughout their degree studies.

Core Governing Institutions:

European Commission – Executive arm implementing policies and daily governance
European Parliament – Legislative body directly elected every 5 years by EU citizens
Council of the European Union – Representative body comprised of government ministers
Court of Justice of the European Union – Supreme judicial authority safeguarding EU law
European Central Bank – Central monetary authority managing the Euro currency

Key Advantages of European Higher Education:

High-quality university education aligned with rigorous European Bologna standards across 27 member states
Seamless cross-border travel within the Schengen Zone on student residence permits
Access to Erasmus+ and prestigious state scholarships covering tuition fees and monthly living stipends
Global degree recognition with official nostrification across Azerbaijan and international ministries of education
