Higher vocational education in Russia can be found in such institutions as Institute, Academy and University.

Officially they are called universities or colleges. According to statistics, in Russia there are about 1 180 institutions of higher education (735 of them have official status) and more than 1,730 branches (in 1138 have state status).

Among the total number of higher education institutions, including their branches, there are 1320 universities, 900 institutes and 690 academies.
